Pre-Race Opportunity Details

  • Race Packet Assembly
    • DATE AND TIMES: Wednesday, October 21, 6:00-8:00 pm
    • JOB: Take race posters to local businesses to ask to have them hung.
    • MEETING PLACE: Palo Alto Family YMCA, 3412 Ross Road, Palo Alto
  • Race Poster Hanging
    • DATE AND TIMES: Friday, September 25, 9:30 am-Noon AND/OR 3:00-5:30 pm
    • JOB: Take race posters to local businesses to ask to have them hung.
    • MEETING PLACE: Palo Alto Family YMCA, 3412 Ross Road, Palo Alto
    • REQUIREMENTS: Each two people must have a car or other form of transportation.
  • YMCA Lobby Booth
    • DATE AND TIMES: Saturdays, 9/20, 10/3, 10/10, 10/17, 9:00 am-Noon
    • JOB: Take race posters to local businesses to ask to have them hung.
    • MEETING PLACE: Palo Alto Family YMCA, 3412 Ross Road, Palo Alto
    • TRAINING: 5-10 minute phone or in person training prior to first shift
  • Race Packet Distribution
    • DATES AND TIMES: Friday, October  23, 12:00-8:00 pm (full shifts not required-smaller shifts are a great help)
    • JOB: Give out race packets to racers who have preregistered.
    • MEETING PLACE: Road Runner Sports - located at 1125 Industrial Road, San Carlos (650) 654-2603.

Race Day Opportunities (All October 24):

  • Course Set Up
    • TIMES: 6:00-8:00 am
    • JOB: Work with race directors to set up tables, course markers, signs, balloons, etc.
    • MEETING PLACE: Palo Alto Baylands (directions to exact meeting location will be given to each volunteer)
  • Course Monitor
    • TIMES: 9:00 am - race completion
    • JOB: Monitor course to ensure that the racers stay on course and have a safe running/walking environment. Be a general on-course resource for participants. Encourage the race participants and provide a great course atmosphere.
    • MEETING PLACE: Palo Alto Baylands (directions to exact meeting location will be given to each volunteer)
    • TRAINING: A one hour training will be provided for all course monitors the week prior to the event.
  • Water Station
    • TIMES: 9:00 am - race completion
    • JOB: Provide water to the race participants as they pass. Encourage the race participants and provide a great course atmosphere.
    • MEETING PLACE: Palo Alto Baylands (directions to exact meeting location will be given to each volunteer)
    • TRAINING: A one hour training will be provided for all water station volunteers the week prior to the event.
  • Expo Volunteers
    • TIMES: 9:00 am-race completion
    • JOB: Assist race directors with various expo jobs, timing, clean up and other general tasks during the race.
    • MEETING PLACE: Palo Alto Baylands (directions to exact meeting location will be given to each volunteer)
    • TRAINING: A 30 minute training will be provided for all course monitors at 7:00 am prior to the race.
  • Registration/ Volunteer Booth
    • TIMES: 9:00-10:30 am
    • JOB: Register participants, distribute race packets to pre-registered participants, answer questions at information booth, sign volunteers in. Provide a fun welcoming environment to all participants and volunteers
    • MEETING PLACE: Palo Alto Baylands (directions to exact meeting location will be given to each volunteer)
    • TRAINING: A 15 minute training will be provided for all course monitors at 7:00 am prior to the race.
  • Clean Up
    • TIMES: Starting when the event ends (approximately 12:30 pm) for about 1.5 hours.
    • JOB: Work with the race directors to take down tables, signs, balloons and clean up any garbage or other left over items.
